Learn More About Griswold's History

Griswold is a growing community located in Southeastern Connecticut. It is situated right off Interstate 395. Although Griswold has, in the past, been mostly farmland, Griswold is building a strong tourism base. Located less than 20 miles from the Mohegan Sun Casino, and Mystic, and 10 miles from Foxwoods, we are a perfect destination location. We have a bed and breakfast, Comfort Inn, gift shops, numerous restaurants, and River Ridge, an 18 hole golf course.

Griswold is rich in forests, lakes, and rivers. It is the home of Hopeville State Park and Pachaug State Forest, the largest state forest in Connecticut. You will find many campgrounds nestled along the shores of the Pachaug and Quinebaug Rivers. Whether you favor a rowboat, canoe, or motorboat and water skiing, you will find the perfect body of water to explore. All have state boat launch access.

If you are looking for a place to call home, you couldn't do better than Griswold! We are a half-hour from the Groton Submarine Base & General Dynamics. We are within driving distance to Hartford, Worcester, Providence, Boston, and New York. You can drive to the shore or to the Rhode Island shore in less than an hour, or drive to the mountains of New Hampshire or Vermont in only a few hours.

Our school system is one of the best in Eastern Connecticut. We have a beautiful campus that is home to four schools and numerous recreation fields. Along with the academic success found in Griswold, we have a very active Little League, soccer teams, and football teams. Our taxes are reasonable and our high score on the Fitch Report speaks of our financial success.

If you are interested in land for commercial development, we have an abundance. We have two approved commercial subdivisions located on State Route 138. Please call our Planning and Community Development office at (860)376-7060 ext. 2111.

Griswold covers 37.1 square miles and is comprised of seven villages: Pachaug, Hopeville, Glasgo, Rixtown, Jewett City, and Doansville, each with its own personality, distinct characteristics, and history.
