Pistol Permit Information
Permit applications and directions are available at all times. If you live within Griswold and not the Borough of Jewett City, the application is available outside the First Selectmen's office located on the second floor of Town Hall. If you live within the Borough of Jewett City the application is available outside the office of the Resident Trooper located in the front corner office, of the 1st floor of the Slater Mill Building located on Wedgewood Drive. If he is not available, reach out to him by calling Troop E at 860-848-6500 and ask for the Jewett City Resident Trooper. Also check the facebook link to the right to look for updates and times when he may be available in the office. Please understand that office availability is limited and every effort is made to accomodate the residents.

Uncas Health District (UHD) develops emergency preparedness plans for the municipalities of the Uncas Health District and five other municipalities included in the Connecticut Department of Public Health (CT DPH) Mass Dispensing Area 38.
Prevention, response and recovery plans are designed for public health emergencies such as epidemics, bio-terrorism, natural, and manmade disasters.
UHD works closely with the Connecticut Department of Public Health, Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security: Region 4 (DEMHS), and Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments' Regional Emergency Management Plan Committee and other local partners to assure comprehensive, up-to-date emergency response plans.

A. A. Young has been a volunteer organization since 1895 and has approximately 40 active members and many more life members. We average about 600 calls for service a year that include structure fires, fire alarms, motor vehicle accidents, water emergencies, incidents with hazardous materials, and carbon monoxide incidents. We respond with the Griswold Volunteer Fire Department to ANY fire in the Town of Griswold.
Our Fire Police members respond with us to assist with traffic control. We are certified by the State of Connecticut as Emergency Medical Service First Responders; and as such we respond to any medical emergency in our response area to District 1 that includes Route 12 to the Canterbury/Plainfield town line, Route 12 south to the Lisbon town line, west of I-395 and the borough of Jewett City.We proudly serve all the residents in Jewett City and the Town of Griswold.

The Griswold Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1947. This is a volunteer organization consisting of approximately 45 members trained in various levels of fire fighting, emergency medical treatments and HAZMAT certifications.
Griswold Volunteer Fire Department responds to over 400 calls each year. We respond with the Jewett City fire Department to all fires in the Town of Griswold including the Borough of Jewett City and are often called by surrounding towns for mutual aide. We are located in District 2 and we are responsible for everything East to Voluntown including I-395 North and south from the Lisbon line to Exit 87 in Plainfield.

Training night is every Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM. Meeting night is every third Tuesday of each month at 8 PM.

American Ambulance Service, Inc. is based in Norwich, Connecticut.
Our paramedics respond to over 20 surrounding communities in Eastern Connecticut. We work with several of those communities as a result of our agreement with the Northeast Council of Governments.
Non-Emergency Transportation
In addition to all of our emergency responsibilities, we provide non-emergency or routine ambulance and wheelchair transportation. We are pleased to be working with all of our community hospitals and skilled nursing and rehab facilities.
