How Does Griswold Compare to Municipalities Across the State

The following statistics are taken from a publication compiled by the Connecticut Policy and Economic Council, entitled "Connecticut Municipal Profiles". The publication ranks the 169 municipalities of the state in a number of categories from 1 to 169, with 1 being the highest and 169 being the lowest. In other words if they were ranking "team spirit" and Griswold was listed as number one, that would mean that Griswold had more team spirit than any other municipality in the state. They didn't rank that one!

It would be a mistake to try to take any one of these rankings and apply it to any decision making process, however, taken as a whole, they provide a useful analytical tool. A good example of a single statistic being a bad indicator would be that the City of Waterbury is ranked number one for tax collection rate at 100%. By itself, that statistic may lead you to believe that they have been doing a pretty good job there. We know that is not the case!
